About Our TPO & Conservation Service

Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) and Conservation Area designations protect trees of value to the local environment and community. Before carrying out any work on a protected tree, it is essential to obtain the correct consent from Wirral Council or Cheshire West and Chester Council. Failing to do so can result in fines of up to £20,000 per tree — and in some cases unlimited fines on conviction.

We can check the status of your tree, advise on what work is possible and what will require formal consent, prepare or assist with the application, and carry out all approved works to the highest standard.

Not all tree work on protected trees requires prior consent. Emergency work to remove an immediate risk to persons or property may be carried out without consent, though the council must be notified as soon as possible afterwards. We advise on what constitutes a genuine emergency versus work that requires prior approval.
